Following a collaborative consultation process with a working group, and a recruitment drive that attracted 88 applications, Heart Kids NZ CEO Dr Ruth Gorinski said it is an absolute delight to announce the appointment of Michael Bowey, a Heart Kids NZ member, as our inaugural Adult Taituarā.

“I extend a very warm welcome to Michael as he joins the Heart Kids NZ whānau. We look forward to working with him as he grows this new arm of our Heart Kids mahi”.

Michael shares some of his background with us in the following bio:

I am a heart adult and have had open heart surgery throughout my life as an infant, a child, a teenager and an adult.

A Registered Nurse with 17 years of experience and a Diploma in Life Coaching I have dedicated my life to caring for others. I will bring a holistic approach to heart adult support and strive to improve access to support for our members.

I live in Palmerston North with my partner Karen and three children. In my free time I enjoy gardening, music, running and cycling, listening to audiobooks and spending time with family.

I have had the privilege of being on the Heart Kids Manawatū/Whanganui committee for the past five years and found this very fulfilling, giving back and volunteering. Now I am very excited and honoured to be part of the Heart Kids New Zealand team and look forward to supporting my fellow heart adults.
