As for the past fifteen years, the Kids Day Out Variety Show is touring 23 towns/cities in Aotearoa again in 2022. Long-time Heart Kids NZ members and supporters will know that the shows usually take place during the summer months. This year, however, they had to be rescheduled to the winter months due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place.
The Show was created to provide children with special needs or circumstances outside of their control, and their families, an opportunity to participate in a live variety show performance.
Each year, the Show brings national and international entertainers into communities and presents performances that cater for children from 5 to 15 years old (and those who are young at heart). Each show is focused on creating a safe and fun environment for the children to relax and enjoy being a child, even if it’s only for a brief moment, enabling them to forget about other things they may be dealing with.
In addition to the show, many businesses get behind it and provide free merchandise that adds a fun surprise factor to the event as some children will go home with something given to them specifically by one of the entertainers.
